Gunfire Erupts as Crew Rams Stolen Van Into Stow Gas Station

Stow residents woke up Monday, Nov. 2, to news of a violent overnight robbery attempt at the Circle K on Steels Corners Road. Suspects used a stolen minivan as a battering ram to break into the store. The clerk on duty was armed and fired back, ending the attack before the group got inside.

Storefront Destroyed Before Dawn

Stow officers were sent to the gas station at 3:30 a.m. for a robbery in progress. Police said the suspects pulled in driving two stolen minivans.

The driver of one van crashed into the front of the building several times. Those impacts shattered the glass entryway. Multiple suspects then climbed out and approached the store on foot.

Clerk Returns Fire

Inside, the clerk fired seven shots at the approaching group, causing everyone to scatter.

Bullets hit a gas pump, one of the suspects’ vans and a post holding up the canopy over the pumps. Police do not know if any of the suspects who got away were wounded.

Foot Chase Ends Across the City Line

One suspect ran from the scene and was caught near Steels Corners Road and Wyoga Lake Boulevard, just over the border in Cuyahoga Falls. At least three others piled into the second van and drove off.

The white minivan used in the crash was abandoned in the Circle K parking lot. Both vans had been reported stolen out of Cleveland, according to police.

Keep an Eye Out for This Van

Stow police are asking the public to watch for the second minivan. It is a brown 1997 Chrysler Town & Country carrying Ohio plate GSR7033.

The rear window glass is gone and has been replaced with plastic. The van was last spotted driving west on Steels Corners Road toward State Route 8.
